After more than a year my band is playing out again. One of my favorite newer cartoonists Cole Johnson (Sugar Free Days) has put out an anthology “Pink Medicine” featuring comics and drawings by me, Allison Cole, Cole Johnson, Dave Kiersh, Adam Mitchell, Jenni Rope, Erik Visser, Greg Vondruska, and Megan Whitmarsh. There are two books… the main book is 40 pages with color covers and black-and-white interiors. The other is a 16 page full color mini by Erik Visser. They come in an envelope graced with a two-color Print Gocco print of a girl letting go of balloons. How can you resist? Order from Cole for $5.00
Dave Kiersh has some new books out including the anthology Last Cry For Help #4 with work by Dave, Vanessa Davis, Dan Moynihan, Ron Rege Jr., Beppi, Souther Salazar and a little gag cartoon by me.
One of my photographs is part of an exhibit called My First Photo at the Paradise Rock Club Lounge, 969 Comm. Ave., Boston. It features the first works by many area photographers. The theme of “first photo” was open to interpretation so I submitted the oldest photo I could find (taken in 1988). The opening reception is this Thursday, August 12th 7-9 p.m. It’s free and open to the public. All items on the new menu are only $4.95 from 5-8 p.m.
I know I haven’t posted anything here in a long time. It’s been a very busy summer. I was able to update the ILLUSTRATION page of this site recently. I’ve been trying to drum up more illustration work recently and I had over 12 new examples to add. I also added more sample pages for Fuchsia Galactica over in the COMICS section. The site revisions are being done slowly but surely. Hopefully I’ll finish the whole thing after I finish up some new comics for the Best Of Boy Trouble collection. It’s in the works but no release date has been announced yet.
Back from the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco where the 10th anniversary issue of Boy Trouble debuted. I designed this anthology which includes (along with a bunch of other great stuff) 5 one-page stories by me. I shared a table with David Kelly who is co-editor of BT. Our friend the amazing Paige Braddock arranged for us to meet Jean Schulz and get a VIP tour of the Charles Schulz Museum, the monday after APE. I picked up the newly published L’il Folks collection at the museum shop and highly recommend it. Oh, and I got hitched the Friday before APE. Congratulations to me!
My band SpoilSport has just finished our first CD and the Release Party is tonight at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain (Boston), MA. If you can’t make it to the show you can buy a copy on-line on our web site.
I’ll be in my hometown of St. Louis for this show sharing a table with my friend Tim Fish. Gary Panter and Charles Burns will be showing work and giving a talk also. Cool! SLCAS web site.
I’ll be attending SPX again this year, exhibiting with my pals Dave Kiersh and Dan Moynihan. My new comic FUCHSIA GALACTICA SUMMER SPECIAL will be debuting there. SPX is held in downtown Bethesda, MD, just one mile outside Washington DC. In its10th year SPX now serves as the pre-eminent showcase for the exhibition of independent comic books.
